Vagner Love’s
multi-million-dollar transfer to Brazilian club Flamengo from CSKA Moscow is a
birthday present for his mother, the Brazil striker said Wednesday.
Flamengo
bought Vagner Love for 10 million euros from CSKA and signed him on a two-year
contract, Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte reported. The transfer was
confirmed by both clubs.
“My
joy is even greater because today is my mother’s 55th birthday. This return to
Flamengo and Brazil is a present for her,” Vagner Love told Flamengo’s website.
“Now it’s definite. I’m very happy, very happy indeed to return to the club
that’s in my heart. It will be great to wear the shirt without having to leave
six months later. I’ll stay for a long time and want to win, win and win. I
want to win all possible titles for the club.”
Vagner
Love spent part of 2010 on loan at the Rio de Janeiro-based club, scoring 23
goals in 27 appearances.
He
told CSKA’s website: “I’ll take extremely warm memories with me from Russia. In
these seven years, I have felt love and support from the club and from the
fans. I fell in love with CSKA with all my heart and felt an affinity with it.
“They
were great years – we won a heap of titles! But, even more, I value how people
connected with me here. At CSKA they made a man out of me, for which I am above
all thankful to the club president Evgeny Giner.”
Since
joining in 2004, the dreadlocked Vagner Love scored 117 goals in 244
appearances, becoming the Russian Premier League’s highest scoring import. He
helped CSKA to two Russian league titles, five Russian Cups and the UEFA Cup,
where he scored the third goal in a 3-1 win over Sporting Lisbon.
